Six kilometres west of old Marib, the Sabean well sits on top of a sandy hill a few metres above the adjacent fields. The well opening is at the top of the hill and descends about 35 metres. It is square in cross-section, built in a distinctive style with one stone per side. Its archaeological significance became apparent after the excavation of the Barran Temple and the discovery of the sacred well at the Bilqis Throne.
