The Awam Temple, also called Mahram Bilqis (the Sacred Precinct of Bilqis), lies 4 km south-east of the Barran Temple. It is the largest of the Sabaean temples and the most important of all, devoted to the worship of the moon god Almaqah. Unlike the Barran Temple, the Awam Temple is an elliptical walled enclosure rather than a pillared structure, with a distinctive peristyle hall. American archaeological excavations in the late 1990s and early 2000s uncovered extensive inscriptions and artefacts before being halted by security concerns.
