Yengo National Park

The sandstone wilderness that forms the southern boundary of the Broke area. Yengo is one of the largest national parks in New South Wales and part of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, though it sees far fewer visitors than the more famous sections to the south. The park protects deep gorges, Aboriginal rock engravings, and a dry sclerophyll forest that looks completely different from the green valley floor around Broke.

Entry is straightforward: the park boundary starts less than 20 kilometres south of the village, and a number of unsealed roads give access to walking tracks and lookouts. The Dharug and Darkinjung people used this country for tens of thousands of years, and the rock engravings scattered through the park — typically outline figures and animal tracks cut into the sandstone — are among the most significant concentrations in eastern Australia. Check with the NSW National Parks visitor information for current track conditions before setting out.
