Broke is wine country first and foremost. Most visitors come to work through the cellar doors scattered along Broke Road and Milbrodale Road — the area has a dozen or more, many smaller and more personal than those in the busier parts of the Hunter. Beyond wine, the Wollombi Brook flows nearby and the valley has horse trails, cycling routes, and a handful of farms welcoming visitors: alpacas, olives, macadamias.
The Yengo National Park borders the area to the south and east, offering bushwalking and birdwatching in sandstone country. The village itself is tiny — a pub, a general store — but that is part of the appeal.
