Wollombi Brook Walk

The Wollombi Brook meanders through the valley floor near Broke, cutting between vineyards and eucalyptus woodland. The creek flats along its bank make for easy, mostly flat walking — you can follow informal tracks from the village for several kilometres in either direction without needing a map.

The riparian vegetation attracts a good variety of birds: sacred kingfishers work the creek edges, yellow-faced honeyeaters move through the scrub, and in summer the brook attracts platypus in the early morning and evening hours, though sightings are not guaranteed. After rain the track can become muddy near the water's edge. The brook eventually joins the Hunter River near Singleton; canoes and kayaks can be put in at various points along its length.
