Cape Byron State Conservation Area

Cape Byron State Conservation Area protects the headland around the easternmost point of mainland Australia. It is a small reserve, but a very scenic one: cliffs, coastal heath, rainforest pockets, and views over beaches that wrap around the cape.

Most visitors come for the lighthouse and the walking track, but the reserve is worth treating as more than a photo stop. Watch for dolphins and migrating whales offshore, and start early if you want the headland before the day-trippers arrive.
