The city centre and beach strip are walkable. Newcastle has a free shuttle bus (the 100X) connecting the interchange, the foreshore, and the beach precinct. For the inner suburbs, local buses cover most destinations. A light rail line runs along the waterfront between Newcastle Interchange and the entertainment precinct. Taxis and rideshares are readily available.
