Miss Porter's House

Preserved Edwardian terrace house museum near Newcastle’s city centre.

Miss Porter's House is a modest terrace house with an unusually intact domestic interior, kept by generations of the Porter family and now opened as a small house museum. Its rooms preserve everyday Newcastle life through furniture, textiles, photographs, and the quiet accumulation of household objects.

The appeal is intimate rather than spectacular. It gives a useful counterpoint to Newcastle's beaches, fort, and industrial waterfront: a close look at how middle-class women lived, worked, saved, and decorated in the city through much of the twentieth century.
