Kakadu begins about 150 km east of Darwin by road. The Arnhem Highway reaches Jabiru and the northern park, while the Kakadu Highway loops south toward Pine Creek and the Stuart Highway. Tours leave from Darwin, but a rental car gives far more flexibility. In the dry season, many main sights are reachable by 2WD; waterfall tracks and remote areas often need a high-clearance 4WD.
