Ubirr is one of Kakadu's essential stops, combining rock-art shelters with a short climb to a magnificent floodplain lookout. The art galleries are protected by sandstone overhangs, with images of fish, turtles, goannas, and ancestral figures layered across the rock.
Go late in the afternoon if access and weather allow. The heat drops, the rocks glow, and the view over the wetlands is superb. Stay on the marked route and respect any photography restrictions; this is a living cultural place, not just a viewpoint.
