Gympie is about 170 km north of Brisbane on the Bruce Highway — roughly two hours by car. The town now sits a few kilometres west of the main highway since the Section D bypass opened in 2023, so you have to take a deliberate exit to get into the centre.
Queensland Rail's Tilt Train and Spirit of Queensland services between Brisbane and Cairns stop at Gympie North, about 6 km from the town centre; a connecting bus runs into town. Greyhound coaches between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast also stop here.
The Sunshine Coast Airport at Marcoola, 80 km south, is the closest commercial airport with flights to Sydney, Melbourne, and Auckland. Brisbane Airport, two hours' drive south, has the full range of domestic and international connections.
