Point Cartwright Lighthouse

The squat white lighthouse on the headland at the southern end of Mooloolaba Beach was built in 1979 to guide ships into the Mooloolah River. It is a working light, automated and unattended, but the headland around it is a public reserve laced with walking paths.

The thirty-minute walk from the south end of the Esplanade out to the point is a Mooloolaba ritual — the views back over the beach and the broad Pacific are particularly good at sunrise. Humpback whales pass close to the headland on their migration north (June–July) and south (September–October), and the point is one of the easiest places on the coast to see them from the land.
