Lake Moondarra is Mount Isa's outback water break, about 16 km from town. Built as a water supply dam on the Leichhardt River, it has become the local place for picnics, fishing, boating, and a softer sunset than the mine-side skyline.
It is not wilderness, but in this dry country open water feels generous. Take water, shade, and common sense in the hotter months.
