Outback at Isa is the practical first stop in Mount Isa and the best single place to understand why the city exists. The complex includes the visitor centre, the Hard Times Mine underground tour, the Riversleigh Fossil Discovery Centre, the Isa Experience heritage display, an art gallery, and an outback park.
The mine tour is the highlight if it is running: current or former miners take visitors underground through a purpose-built mine, with machinery, stories, and enough heat and dust to make the industry feel real rather than abstract.
