Linke's Central Meat Store in Tanunda is the best example of the valley's German smallgoods tradition. The shop has been operating since 1919 and produces its own mettwurst, leberwurst, fritz and smoked meats using old family recipes. It's not a restaurant — you take away — but picking up a stick of mettwurst and some sourdough bread is one of the essential Barossa food experiences.
The shop is on Murray Street in the centre of Tanunda, and the queue on Saturday mornings tells you everything you need to know about its local reputation. The mettwurst comes in mild and hot varieties and is best eaten the same day, with good bread and mustard.
