The Barossa Valley is about 70 kilometres northeast of Adelaide, roughly an hour's drive. The most direct route from the city is the Sturt Highway to Gawler, then the Barossa Valley Highway into the valley. There is no train service to the valley; a car is essential unless you join an organised day tour from Adelaide, which many visitors do. Day tours run regularly from the city and include transport, winery visits, and usually lunch.
