Lyndoch

Lyndoch is the first town you reach when driving into the Barossa Valley from Adelaide, sitting in the southern end of the valley where the gorge opens out. It's smaller and quieter than Tanunda, with a handful of cellar doors, a bakery, and the Sandy Creek Conservation Park nearby. The Barossa Reservoir and the Whispering Wall are a short drive away.

The Whispering Wall at the Barossa Reservoir dam is worth a stop — the curved retaining wall creates a remarkable acoustic effect where whispered words spoken at one end carry clearly to a listener at the other end, 140 metres away. It's a genuinely strange and memorable experience, especially with children.
