Penfolds Barossa Valley Estate

Penfolds is Australia's most internationally recognised winery, and its Barossa operation in Nuriootpa is the production heartland for many of its most celebrated wines, including the legendary Grange. The cellar door offers a range of experiences, from simple tastings to the iconic "Make Your Own Blend" session where visitors work alongside a winemaker to create their own bottled blend to take home.

The heritage of Penfolds stretches back to 1844, when Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold planted cuttings he brought from the south of France to his property at Magill outside Adelaide. The Grange, first released in 1951, was the creation of winemaker Max Schubert, who developed it partly as an experiment after visiting Bordeaux — his colleagues initially thought it was undrinkable, but it went on to become one of Australia's most valuable wines.
