Mount Gambier's biggest draws are geological. The Blue Lake dominates every visitor itinerary, but the city also has the Cave Garden sinkhole in its heart, the flooded Engelbrecht Cave popular with divers, Valley Lake in the crater rim wildlife sanctuary, and the heritage-listed Mount Gambier Gaol. For those interested in the landscape's deeper history, the volcanic maar complex itself is well worth walking around.
