Hartz Mountains National Park

Hartz Mountains National Park gives Geeveston its wild southern backdrop: glacial lakes, dolerite ridges, waterfalls, alpine plants, and views toward Tasmania's Southwest wilderness. It is part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, but still reachable as a day trip from the Huon Valley.

Shorter walks lead to lookouts and lakes; the Hartz Peak walk is a more serious outing and needs good weather judgment. Conditions can change quickly, so treat the park with more respect than its road access might suggest.
