Carlton is small enough to walk from end to end in fifteen minutes. The 1, 6 and 8 trams run north up Lygon Street through the middle of the suburb, and the 96 runs along Nicholson Street to its east. The free City Circle tram does not reach Carlton, but the trams within the free tram zone get you to its southern edge.
Bicycles are a good option — most main streets have dedicated bike lanes and the council has built up the network significantly in recent years. The dockless Lime e-scooters and the city's bike-share scheme cover Carlton.
