Lake Pertobe is a large coastal parkland on the Warrnambool foreshore, built around a shallow lake and a network of walking paths through dunes and scrub. The adventure playground — one of the most elaborate in regional Victoria — has giant slides, flying foxes, a maze, and pedal boat hire on the lake. It is aimed firmly at families with children but the surrounding parkland is pleasant for anyone.
The foreshore walk from Lake Pertobe to the town centre follows the beach past the TAFE and caravan parks. It takes about 20 minutes and is the nicest way to approach town from the coast. Across the lake from the playground, a boardwalk through coastal scrub leads to a secluded swimming beach.
