Esperance is about 720km southeast of Perth by road, a drive of 7–8 hours on the South Coastal Highway. The road is good — sealed and reasonably fast — but long; most visitors break the journey at Hyden (home of Wave Rock) or Albany. Fuel up at every town along the way, as gaps between service stations can exceed 200km in places.
Esperance Airport has regular flights from Perth with Regional Express (Rex); the journey takes about 1 hour 45 minutes. Flight prices vary significantly; booking in advance usually gives the best rates. A rental car from Esperance Airport is essentially required to see the national parks and beaches — there is no useful public transport.
The Transwa Prospector bus service connects Perth to Kalgoorlie, but there is no direct bus service from Perth to Esperance. The Transwa road coach service covers the Esperance route from Perth several times a week, taking 8–9 hours. For those with time, a campervan or 4WD hired in Perth allows the most flexible exploration of the region.
