Kalbarri is best reached by car. It sits at the end of the Kalbarri Road, which branches off the North West Coastal Highway about 70 kilometres north of Northampton. The drive from Perth is about 590 kilometres (roughly 5.5 to 6 hours), typically broken with a stop in Geraldton.
By car: The drive from Perth to Geraldton on the Brand Highway takes about 4 hours. From Geraldton, follow the Brand Highway north to the Kalbarri Road junction. The roads are well-maintained and fully sealed throughout.
By bus: Integrity Coach Lines runs a regular service between Perth and Kalbarri via Geraldton. The journey takes about 7 hours from Perth. The service is reliable but requires booking in advance, especially during wildflower season.
By air: There is a small airstrip at Kalbarri, but no regular scheduled airline service. Charter flights are available from Perth and Geraldton for groups. Most visitors fly to Perth and drive or take the bus.
Car hire is strongly recommended if arriving by bus — the national park gorges are 25-60 kilometres from town on unsealed roads, and without a vehicle you are dependent on tours.
