The Loop is the longer and wilder of the two main gorge walks in the river section of Kalbarri National Park. The trail follows the rim of a dramatic horseshoe bend of the Murchison River for about 8 kilometres return, passing through spinifex country with unobstructed views into the gorge at several points. The walk includes a descent to the river at Nature's Window — a famous rock arch framing a view of the river and the gorge beyond — and a section through the riverbed itself.
Nature's Window, halfway along the loop trail, is one of the most photographed features in Western Australia. The natural sandstone arch forms a natural frame around the river view beyond, and the walk through the riverbed section between the arch and the next lookout gives a completely different perspective on the gorge — looking up at the coloured walls from river level. The trail is clearly marked but involves some scrambling. Allow 4-5 hours and carry at least 2 litres of water per person.
