Atiu is for caves, birds, and bush walks — there is essentially no other tourist infrastructure. The highlights are Anatakitaki Cave with its echolocating kopeka swiftlets, the burial cave of Rima Rau, a guided bush walk across the makatea, and a tumunu (Cook Islands bush-beer drinking circle) at one of the village clearings. A full circuit around the island by scooter takes an afternoon.
