Reef diving and snorkelling

The fringing reef directly off Levuka and around the rest of Ovalau is uncrowded, healthy, and unusually accessible — most dive sites are a five- or ten-minute boat ride from the harbour. Hard coral cover is good, soft corals exceptional, and the channels host reef sharks, eagle rays, and the occasional pelagic. The reef shelves quickly so even snorkellers see plenty.

A few small operators run diving and snorkel trips from Levuka and the resorts on the western side of the island. The water is warm year-round; visibility peaks in the May-to-October dry season.
