The Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Beach Street, built between 1858 and 1870, is the oldest standing church in Fiji and the most architecturally striking building in Levuka — a long whitewashed nave with a separate clock tower whose bell still tolls the hour. The interior is plain and cool; the floor is broad timber boards original to the building.
The church sits beside the small fishermen's harbour. It is open during daylight hours; mass is held on Sundays and feast days.
