Greystone Wines is one of the better-known Waipara cellar doors, with organic vineyards on the limestone and clay slopes north of town. Pinot noir is the main draw, but the whites are often just as useful for understanding why this valley has a name beyond Canterbury.
This is a good stop for travellers who want a real vineyard visit rather than just a bottle-shop tasting. Leave time for the setting; the point is the wine, but the North Canterbury light does a lot of the work.
