Hahei Beach is a long, gently curved strip of sand facing Mercury Bay. Offshore islands break up the swell, so the water is usually more sheltered than many east-coast beaches on the peninsula.
The beach is the village's front room. Families spread out under the pohutukawa trees, kayaks launch from the sand, and the northern end is the natural starting point for the Cathedral Cove coast when access conditions allow.
