Levin sits on State Highway 1 between Wellington (about 90 minutes south) and Palmerston North (about 40 minutes north). Most travellers passing through the lower North Island go through Levin without much choice in the matter — it is the obvious break point on this stretch.
The Capital Connection commuter train (Wellington–Palmerston North) stops at Levin railway station once each way on weekdays, departing the city in the early evening and returning the following morning. Tranzit and InterCity buses on the Wellington–Palmerston route also stop in town. There is no airport.
