Gisborne's food scene is modest in size but benefits from excellent local produce — fresh seafood from the Pacific coast, lamb and beef from the surrounding hill country, and fruit and vegetables from the fertile Poverty Bay flats. The city centre has a compact cluster of restaurants and cafes.
