Aratoi (full name: Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art and History) is the regional gallery and museum, in a purpose-built building on the main street of Masterton. It combines a small permanent collection on the history of the Wairarapa with rotating contemporary art exhibitions — usually three or four at a time across the two floors.
The exhibitions are consistently well-curated for a regional gallery, and the museum has run several internationally significant shows over the years. Free entry, open seven days, with a good cafe attached. Allow an hour.
