Hamilton is served by Hamilton Airport (HLZ), about 12 km south of the city centre, with domestic flights to Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and a handful of other New Zealand cities. The airport is small and easy to navigate; taxis and rental cars are available, and the airport shuttle runs to central Hamilton.
By road, Hamilton is 90 minutes south of Auckland on the Waikato Expressway. The InterCity bus network runs services from Auckland, Wellington, Rotorua, Tauranga, and most other major North Island centres directly to Hamilton's central bus terminal. The Northern Explorer scenic train runs between Auckland and Wellington with a stop at Hamilton Central station, though it only operates a few days per week.
