Tepuka Islet

Tepuka is an uninhabited islet on the western edge of Funafuti's lagoon, inside the conservation area. It is a classic Pacific picture-book island: a strip of white sand, a stand of coconut palms, a small interior of pisonia forest, and reef on all sides. There is no jetty and no infrastructure — boats anchor offshore and you wade in.

It is one of the most popular day-trip destinations from Fongafale, partly because the snorkelling is genuinely good and partly because the islet is just large enough to walk around in half an hour. A preserved underground bunker from the Second World War sits in the interior, a small reminder that even these dots of land had strategic value once.
