Southern Beach

A narrow coral beach at the island's southern tip, accessible on foot through the palm forest in about 20 minutes from the village. It is wild and quiet, with no facilities of any kind. The exposed position means the sea is usually too rough for swimming, but the walk through the island's interior — a tangle of coconut palms, pandanus, and breadfruit — is worthwhile on its own.

A story
The southern end of Niulakita has a strip of white coral sand backed by dense palms that sees essentially no visitors. The beach faces the open Pacific, and on most days the swell makes swimming inadvisable, but the setting is remarkable. Seabirds nest in the vegetation immediately behind the beach, and frigatebirds can often be seen riding thermals overhead.
