The beach at Jalë is a wide crescent of white pebbles and coarse sand, set in a small bay where the limestone mountains come right down to the sea. The water is clear and warm in summer, shading from pale green at the edge to deep blue further out. You can swim, snorkel, or simply sit and watch the fishing boats.
There are no large hotels here and no water sports operators. The handful of beach bars serve cold drinks and grilled fish, and that is about it. The simplicity is genuine rather than manufactured — this stretch of coast has not yet been packaged for mass tourism, and it shows in the prices and the atmosphere. Come in June or September and you may have long stretches of the beach to yourself; in July and August it fills with Albanian families from the cities.
