Lezhe Castle stands on the ridge above the city, with views over the Drin plain, the coast at Shengjin, and the mountains inland. The site is much older than the present walls: ancient Lissus stood here, and later Venetian and Ottoman fortifications reused the hill.
The castle is rough around the edges, which is part of the appeal. Walk up in the cooler part of the day, then continue down to the Skanderbeg Memorial in the centre.
