Vlore Castle was an Ottoman fortification built in 1531 under Sultan Suleiman to help defend the coast from Venetian attack. Little of the site has the drama of a complete fortress, but it adds useful historical context to Vlore's bay and the city's long strategic role on the Adriatic.
