Khorakert Monastery

Remote medieval Armenian monastery in the hills above the Debed region.

Khorakert Monastery is a remote medieval site in northern Armenia, reached through the high countryside beyond the better-known Debed Canyon monuments. Its stone church and surviving carvings reward travellers who have already seen Sanahin and Haghpat and want a quieter, rougher monastery visit.

The setting is a major part of the experience: hills, villages, and long views rather than ticket desks and crowds. Roads and access can be variable, so go with local advice or a driver who knows the area, and do not treat it as a casual walk from Alaverdi.
