Khuchapi Monastery is not an easy tick-box sight, which is part of its appeal. The ruined medieval complex sits in the far north of Armenia near the Georgian border, with carved stone, collapsed sections, and a lonely mountain setting.
Go only if you have time, suitable transport, and a taste for rougher monastery hunting around Alaverdi. The reward is atmosphere rather than polish: a frontier ruin where Armenian and Georgian architectural influences seem to meet in the stonework.
