The plateau on which Haghpat Monastery sits drops sharply into the Debed canyon, and the edge just beyond the monastery walls makes for one of the best viewpoints in Lori. On a clear day you can see the rooftops of Sanahin Monastery across the gorge and the smokestacks of Alaverdi far below. Sunset, when the canyon walls turn gold, is the moment to be here.
There is no fence or facilities — it is simply the natural edge of the village. Take care with children and watch your step in wet weather.
