Sanahin Bridge

This medieval stone bridge spans a tributary of the Debed River below the village. Built in 1192, it is one of the finest surviving examples of medieval Armenian bridge architecture. The single arch is decorated with carved animal figures — cats and bulls — on its parapets, and the proportions are elegant for a functional structure. The bridge was part of the trade route through the Debed gorge and is still in remarkably good condition after more than eight centuries.

The bridge is about a kilometre from the monastery, down a steep path toward the river. It is easy to miss if you do not know to look for it, but it rewards the detour. The gorge setting is dramatic, with the river running through a narrow valley of dark volcanic rock and dense forest.
