Mount Khustup is Kapan's constant backdrop and the city's strongest natural anchor. The summit rises to 3,201 metres, high enough that this is a real mountain outing rather than a casual stroll from town.
The reward is the view over southern Syunik: broken ridges, mining valleys, forest, and the sense that Armenia is narrowing toward Iran. Go with local advice, proper footwear, and a clear forecast. This is not the place to improvise in bad weather.
