A narrow gorge cut into the hillside just south of Bad Ischl, Rettenbachklamm makes for a satisfying half-day walk without needing serious hiking gear. A well-maintained path follows the Rettenbach stream through moss-covered rock walls, with wooden walkways and bridges where the gorge narrows. The air stays cool even on hot days, and the sound of rushing water is constant. The route eventually climbs out to a viewpoint above town. Allow about two hours for the round trip. The path can be slippery after rain, so decent shoes are worthwhile.
