Bludenz sits on the Arlberg railway line, one of Austria's main east-west routes, which makes it well-connected by train. From Zurich the journey takes around two hours; from Innsbruck roughly 1.5 hours; from Vienna about five hours with a change. The Arlberg route passes through some dramatic scenery — if you are coming from the east, the descent from the Arlberg Pass into Vorarlberg is one of the better train journeys in the Alps.
Bludenz Bahnhof is the hub for regional buses into all five surrounding valleys, which means you do not need a car to reach most of the area's walking and skiing destinations. The station building itself is modest but functional, with luggage lockers and connections timed to meet trains.
By car, Bludenz is reached via the A14 Rheintal-Walgau motorway from the west (Feldkirch and Bregenz) or from the east via the S16 through the Klostertal. The town centre has paid parking; most visitors staying for a few days find a hotel with parking more practical.
