Adjacent to the Hofkirche, the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum occupies a former monastery and holds one of the most substantial collections of Alpine folk culture in existence. The permanent collection spans traditional carved furniture, painted household items, religious folk art, textiles, and the panelled interiors of traditional Tyrolean farmhouses — entire rooms transported here from the valleys and reassembled in the museum.
The carnival mask collection is the undisputed highlight: hundreds of hand-carved wooden masks from across the region, representing characters from traditional Alpine processions that continue to this day. The three floors also include reconstructed Alpine farm kitchens, cradles, painted chests, and devotional objects that give a vivid picture of mountain life across several centuries.
