The Walchsee lies about 4 kilometres south of Kössen on the road toward Kufstein, a clear lake set in a broad valley with good mountain views. The water warms up more than most alpine lakes in summer — temperatures regularly reach 24°C in July — making it genuinely pleasant for swimming rather than a brief cold dip. The lake is also a well-regarded spot for windsurfing and paddleboarding, with reliable afternoon breezes.
The village of Walchsee sits at the eastern end of the lake and has a good selection of cafes and lakeside restaurants. A circular path around the lake takes about 90 minutes at a leisurely pace. For those with children, the shallow eastern shore has a grassy bathing area with facilities.
