Kufstein is a genuinely year-round destination. Summer (June to September) is the main hiking season: the Wilder Kaiser trails are clear, the Hechtsee lake is warm enough for swimming, and the old town cafes spill onto the streets. July and August are the busiest months, with many day-trippers arriving from Munich.
Winter draws a different crowd: skiers using Kufstein as a base for the SkiWelt area (the main ski villages are twenty minutes away by car or bus), and visitors who appreciate the old town looking distinctly Tyrolean with snow on the fortress walls. The Heroes' Organ noon recital continues year-round, weather permitting. Spring and autumn are the quietest times and arguably the most beautiful — the Kaisertal valley in autumn colour is worth the trip on its own.
