The Stadtplatz is the heart of Leibnitz — an attractive elongated market square lined with two-storey burgher houses and anchored by the town fountain. A few of the facades retain their baroque plasterwork, and the square has the lived-in quality of a place that is still a genuine market town rather than a tourist stage set.
The outdoor cafes around the square are the social hub of Leibnitz, especially during the wine festivals that punctuate the summer calendar. The local tourist information office is here, and this is the logical starting point for any walk into the vineyards or up to Schloss Seggau.
